This commercial, directed by Greg Rom of Humanoid for agency Red Lounge, forms the crowning part of an elaborate media campaign for Coke, tying in to the Fifa Confederations Cup being held in South Africa.

The entire commercial was shot in an empty stadium and without any soccer balls, leaving our work here at BlackGinger cut out for us as we tackled this project. It took 3 Flame suites run concurrently and a team of dedicated animators to pull this film off in the short turn around time.

With only a few crowd elements being shot it was a huge challenge to duplicate and integrate the stadium plates that form the background to almost every shot. The ball is 3d throughout and was choreographed with style and flare to portray the sublime skills of the underdog team in the final minute of the game. Together with extensive cleanups, rig removals and greenscreen comps this sequence creates a magical victory that culminates in a celebration of CGI fireworks.
